Just, Joy

Hello, and welcome to my little corner of the universe. For those of you dropping by for the first time, my name is Joyce Griggs. However, I have had so many versions of a legal government name, causing me more issues than the actual partners whose names I was attached to, I might add. That at this point, I like to say I am just Joy.

Like Cher—but living on a significantly lower budget and not nearly as iconic.

I am a mid 50 year old white woman who lives on the edge of the world. Living on the edge of the coastal woods in Washington has taught me about tides—when to push, when to retreat, and how to find Joy in the middle of the mist.

I am a mid-50s woman pursuing a life of semi-retirement. I hold a Master’s Degree in Psychology and have spent over 15 years in social services, providing strategic, person-centered care to my community. In short: I’ve spent over a decade helping people navigate their own “gray areas” while I was busy navigating mine.

I have raging ADHD, which means I am a professional tinkerer, a serial gardener, and a devoted chaser of whatever hobby currently has me fixated. I am also a mother to three amazing children and a staunch ally to the LGBTQIA+ community.

My personal and political compass leans left. If you have strong negative opinions about that, or if “radical empathy” isn’t your thing, this may not be the digital sanctuary for you.

But if you’re looking for someone who understands that life is a blend of structure and soul—and that sometimes you have to quit the state job to find your sanity—then welcome. I’m glad you’re here for the journey.
